Acclaimed writer Clara Obligado will be facilitating this workshop at the London Spanish Book & Zine Fair 2025.

How is the writing experience of those who live far from their homeland? Does distance change the way we think and feel? In this workshop, we'll reflect on this circumstance and its positive and challenging aspects. We'll also discuss creative strategies and how many writers have dealt with this situation.

Facilitated by Clara Obligado (Argentina / Spain), author of Una casa lejos de casa: La escritura extranjera (A Home Far From Home: Foreign Writing) and Todo lo que crece, Naturaleza y escritura (all that grows), a hybrid autobiography and essay. In her essay books she has addressed topics related to women, identity, exile, migration, language and culture. Winner of the Lumen Women's Novel Prize for La hija de Marx (Marx's Daughter, Barcelona,1996), the Setenil Prize for her book Breve Petrarca para viajeros (2015) and the Konex Letras - Short Story Prize: Five-Year Period 2019-2023. Diploma of Merit (2024).

Since 1980 Clara has been a mentor to writers through her creative writing workshops, a pioneering space in Madrid.

Todo lo que crece. Naturaleza y escritura has just been translated into English by Fiona Mackintosh and published by X Artist’s Books, all that grows (2025).

This workshop is part of the Seventh Edition of the London Spanish Book & Zine Fair.
£ 20.- (Includes entry to the Book and Zine Fair that takes place at the same venue from 10 am to 4 pm).

Note: Due to the age and Grade II listing of the building, there is no lift access to rooms above the ground floor.
