La condesa sangrienta (The Bloody Countess) is one of Alejandra Pizarnik's key compositions, its pages construct a disturbing portrait of sadism and madness that the artist Santiago Caruso's prints recreate with admirable mastery.

Accused of the murder of 650 young people, Erzébet Báthory is one of the most sinister criminals in history. In her castle in the Carpathian Mountains , at the end of the 17th century, the countess looms over her victims to bleed them dry and preserve her youth. The cursed and fascinating legend of her lives on through time. The story by Alejandra Pizarnik was published for the first time in the magazine Testigo in 1961.

Alejandra Pizarnik ( 29 April 1936 – 25 September 1972 ) was an Argentine poet. Her idiosyncratic and thematically introspective poetry has been considered "one of the most unusual bodies of work in Latin American literature", and has been recognized and celebrated for its fixation on "the limitation of language, silence, the body, night, the nature of intimacy, madness, [and] death".
